My Poetry

For as long as I can remember, poetry has been an important way for me to express myself. Sometimes the verse is a poem I have written.  Some are the lyrics to songs I have composed.

Everything on these pages was written by me and is copyrighted.

Soldier Boy
Did you know when you left that you took my heart?
Will I ever see you again?
The word goodbye has torn me apart
And my thoughts of you never end.

Soldier Boy, I miss you.
Soldier Boy, do you miss me too?

And I'll cry tonight  before I sleep.
Any my prayers are for you, my friend.

Your eyes were sad and you turned away.
Are you scared of somthing new?
Is there something inside  that you wanted to say?
For I think that you cried too.

SoldierBoy, I miss you.
Soldier Boy, do you miss me too.

And I realized as you walked away
That maybe you love me too.

Soldier Boy, I miss you.
Soldier Boy do you miss me too?
SoldierBoy, I need you.
Soldier Boy, please need me too.
Soldier Boy, I love you.
Soldier Boy, don't die.
This song was written for my brother, Bob, the day he left for basic training after joining
the Army in 1987.  I was never so proud--or so sad--as that morning as he was leaving.
The picture I chose to illustrate these lyrics is from a Civil War Collection I found on the Internet.  The Civil War has always held a certain fascination for my family, having spent several years in Virginia with a father who took advantage of our location to teach us about this Great American Tragedy.

One of the great regrets I have in life is that, as an 11-year-old kid, I did not appreciate what I was experiencing.  It wasn't until years later, as an adult, that I began to understand what sacrifices were made in the name of Freedom.  Boys, like the one in this picture, went off to war--so many never came home again.

If you ever have the opportunity, walk the fields of Gettysburg.  It will forever change you.

My brother David now participates in Civil War re-enactments.
